The Story of my Sound Project: A Beach Day
To create, produce, and edit my sound story was a bit of a challenge, but it proved to be worth persevering through the minor troubles I faced.
My first major problem was deciding what to create my sound story around. I knew that it had to be simple, which is the type of story I wanted to do in the first place, but not so simple that viewers, or shall I say, listeners of my story, wouldn't be able to tell what was going on. Eventually, I decided to do a short story about a beach day, figuring it would be great for incorporating recorded Foley sounds, sound effects, and a little bit of dialogue.
I had to do a bit of online research to see how I was going to create my different sounds, as well as use the process of trial and error to see what worked to make the best sound and what didn't. I believe the hardest sounds to create were the rain and the sound of wind, both of which I had to attempt making the most times. Fortunately my dad assisted me in retrieving a bike from our garage that I decided to use to create the wind sound effect. Although it didn't come out quite how I wanted it to, I believe that the sound turned out the best that it could have using my method.
In the area of editing, which I think was my favorite part, iMovie was very easy to use and it actually had included in the program a list of sound effects which I could choose from and insert into my project. From there the only one I used was the seagulls sound effect, which added to the level of authenticity of my sounds.
Even in filming my Foley videos I had to overcome some obstacles, such as placing my camera in the right position and making sure that you could hear, as well as see, the sound effect being made. Finally, I put all of my recorded Foley videos into one condensed video using iMovie as well.
