Beginning to Edit the Sound and Music

So, my group for this film opening project recently began the editing phase of this whole production, specifically the editing of the sound, music, and sound effects, and Melanie is helping to head that department while the rest of us contribute to other aspects of the opening.  For instance, Tori, being the one whose camera we are using, will help by uploading the footage to Google Drive to share with the rest of us, including Melanie, to edit and look over.

Fortunately, with the help of YouTube, my group members and I, mainly Daniel and I, were able to search for non-copyright songs and decide upon which ones we wanted to use for the opening, based on the moods of the characters and the time frame in which they would play in the scenes.

For Betty's bedroom scene, for example, we wanted a song with a more somber emotional theme because we are trying to portray Betty's feelings of heartbreak so we chose a dramatic, piano song called Reverie by Lahar featuring Adarsh PV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77EPJ_BcT98And we were going to include a song that August would have playing in the background while she drives up, practically blasting it out of the car, as she pulls up to talk to James, but we discussed it and decided that adding music to that scene would take too much time away from what's actually important in the scene. Then for the last scene, where we zoom out of the car that August and James are going to be in and pan to the sky where the title is going to be displayed, we chose a slightly less dramatic, more lyrical song called Token by Fernweh featuring Cloe Sutherland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyRs5liCLgU) We thought this would be perfect because there are male and female vocalists, fitting of the last scene being with James and August.

As far as right now, those are the song choices we have selected and are going to stick with, but like I have said before in previous blog posts, this is all a work in progress and I don't think it will be that big of a problem if we have to or choose to pick different songs in terms of the editing of this project. Of course, we would just have to let Melanie know ahead of time.

Melanie's friend has helped her with a little bit of the editing as she has had previous experience but needed some assistance dealing with some of the footage implementing the techniques we wanted to use in the editing to make our vision for this project become a reality. Although she is still in the process of sound editing, so far she has used the editing software programs of Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe After Effects.
