Our First day successes and failures

My group's first day filming, which was mainly to see how things would go and to feel out how we were going to do it all, accomplished a lot but also showed us that there were improvements needed to be made.

For example, I think it's fair to say that shooting Betty's bedroom scene went pretty good as we set up the room just how we planned it out to look like. It turned out to be a good idea to use Amberina's bedroom after all because the walls being pink felt like it fit Betty's personality more. The James and Betty scene also went really well as the conversation ended up being a good length. We are planning to have a voiceover interrupt this scene so that it won't have to be that long anyway. Hopefully the conversation scene will work out when we actually film the August and James one as well.

But there were also some failures that occurred during our filming. First, in shooting the bedroom scene with Betty, it took quite a bit of time to pan over the whole room to show off the evidence of heartbreak, which would obviously be a problem for us, trying to fit that in with the rest of the footage in under two minutes. Then, when we tried to reshoot this scene and ended up going too fast, not being able to properly capture everything and focus on what was important.

Also, in filming Betty's POV shot, where she walks up to her front door to meet James, we had issues. This shot was very shaky and didn't look up to par enough for our liking. Although it's definitely not going to look completely professional in the final shooting, we still want to make it at least a little better in appearance. Next time, we will set it up differently and have "Betty" perhaps walk slower to make the shot appear a bit more static.

As a result of running out of time and daylight, the last scene we shot, of the tilt from the car to the sky, did not come out as good as we wanted it to. The sky looked a little too dark to appear as if it was morning, which is when the film opening is supposed to take place during. Plus, we're planning to have the title be displayed over the sky and the colors just wouldn't work together with that sequence.

However, the next time we meet to film, we're planning on shooting the sky tilt as the very first thing we do, so we can get a nice shot of the sunny, more morning-looking sky, since the setting of the film opening is supposed to be in the morning.
