The Challenges of Filming Prep

The challenges that my group for this film opening project have faced so far has varied from miniscule to major.

One of the main problems we have been trying to overcome is trying to meet up and film safely and at a time that works for everyone. All of my group members, including myself were and still are a bit apprehensive about coming together to do this project, considering the pandemic situation, how our parents are strict about it, and how difficult it may be to follow the proper guidelines while doing this.

In addition, we were struggling to figure out how we were going to shoot the scenes that take place indoors, for example, in Betty's bedroom and in the space of her front door. Eventually we decided that perhaps we could use someone's room/house whose parents would allow them to have guests or who wouldn't mind us being there for a little while and have the actress playing Betty, Amberina Khoja at the moment, utilize that room, acting as if it's hers.

We were planning to have the entire film opening scene to take place in the morning, so we decided to film in the morning/afternoon, and although it is a vague time frame, we just wanted to keep our options open in case something comes up for someone or the locations we plan on using aren't available at specific times.

Surprisingly though, what was easy about preparing to film was picking out the cast members for instance, as we all had friends that were willing to do this with us (and for us!). And even in the case of Daniel, who was chosen as the obligatory James, it worked out because him already being a part of the group made it easy for him to understand the filming process and he is the main one who helped write the lines (that we have thus far).

So, as of right now, Daniel is going to be playing James, the heartbreaker, our friend Amberina is playing Betty, and our other friend Ashley is playing August. Then for the crew, I am planning to be the "director of photography", working behind the camera, Daniel will most likely be credited as a writer in addition to the casting credit, Melanie and Tori are helping to edit the footage and put everything together, including the music, and we will all be credited with writing as well as we contributed to the script in some way, shape, or form.
