My Favorite Part
While working on the last parts of our film opening project, my group and I were discussing our favorite aspects of creating the whole thing and honestly I have to say that my favorite part was the filming of it all. And if you know me that's because my dream is to work behind the camera, or work virtually anywhere on the set of a film or TV show. Fortunately for me I was graciously handed the task of being the cameraperson, or camerawoman in this case.
On the other hand, planning how and where we going to film was a bit challenging, but even some of the most joyous experiences can't be perfect and that's what makes it worthwhile in the end. Anyway, like I've discussed before, among the different problems we faced while doing this project, one of the bigger ones was finding a place to film while still doing our best to meet COVID-19 guidelines. I will never ever stop thanking Daniel for allowing us to use his house/front door, and eventually his neighborhood, to shoot most of the scenes. Technically I arrived a little late to Daniel's house the day we began filming, but Tori was already there with the camera that we were going to use and had already started filming Betty's POV shots, which of course, was meant to be filmed by her anyway. Once it was time to film the other scenes, such as the view of Betty from James' POV and the other scenes with August and James (aka Ashley and Daniel), I was ready to take over. Well, actually that might be an exaggeration. Looking back at it now, I probably should've looked more closely at the storyboard or planned out exactly how I was going to set up myself and the camera to film this ahead of time so as to avoid what did take place. While I was not completely unprepared, as Daniel knew some of the planned shots more than I did, he was able to guide me in terms of wear to stand and how to hold the camera. Perhaps we should have credited him as co-director!
As expected, there were a few other difficulties during filming, such as Tori's camera not only overheating because we were shooting in the hot sun, but it also running out of battery charge. Evidently though, we all survived and were actually able to film everything properly in one session! Through the many takes and pauses, our group persevered, and at the end of the day, we got the final product we wanted.
