What the Movie Would Look Like
Although we are done with our film opening, I thought it would be a good idea to blog about how the story would continue if my group had made this into an actual full length movie. Not only is this possible, because we actually thought this story through but I think it's also another way for us to express and exhibit our creative prowess as we did with the creation of the opening.
Now, what I would imagine to happen as soon as the opening ends is that the scene would change back to Betty in her room, laying on her bed, staring at the ceiling, her narration of the storyline continuing. She would basically explain that her and James have been on a wild ride and she would say something like "Let's start from the beginning", to indicate that the next scene would be a flashback. The flashback would contain unnarrated scenes of Betty and James' first encounter, first date, and the last day of school of the previous school year where they both say their goodbyes because Betty had gone to a summer college program.
The next set of scenes would focus on how August and James met and follow their relationship over the course of the summer. Since James and August are supposed to be from different high schools, they would not have known each other prior to this summer. James would be working at an ice cream shop in their town and August would go there one day, they would hit it off and eventually start dating, completely unbeknownst to Betty of course. We would also get the chance to introduce the gossip of a character Inez to this story. Inez would appear throughout these scenes, lurking in the background, finding out everything that was happening between August and James.
Then, Betty would finally come home towards the end of the summer. James ready to break things off with August once and for all. But, because of Inez's blabber mouth, soon enough Betty herself finds out about James and August's summer fling and dumps him before he even gets a chance to explain himself. Betty would begin to narrate the story again and the scene would change to them back at school in the fall. Betty, having to face James everyday in the halls, yet not speak to him, feels pain in the very depths of her soul, but she knows it's for the best. Now the movie would go back to the part where the opening left off, with the audience now knowing the full story.
Between this part and the end, the movie would follow James' many attempts to win back Betty, including him making a fool of himself in front of other people on several occasions because I think this would add a comedic element, which I am fond of. The movie would also showcase August trying to worm her way back into James' life as well. However, by the end James and Betty will end up together and August will have had some much needed character development and learn not to meddle in other people's business.
